Aim

People need people: we'll give 1-2-1 human support to 1,200 journalists, levelling the playing field in an unstable, inaccessible industry.

The Journalism Industry Has Problems

The journalism industry is already one of the most inaccessible industries and it’s not getting any better. The latest stats from the NCTJ show it remains largely white and middle-class, while the Sutton Trust finds journalists are four times as likely to have attended a private school than the general public. In 2025, the Reuters Institute concluded there is “little change [from] the situation in 2015” in regards to ethnicity, meaning a decade of little progress.

At the same time, journalists at all career stages are facing a perfect storm of redundancies, budget cuts, algorithm changes, and AI. Last year, Press Gazette tracked some 3,434 job cuts across the UK and US. As of June 2026, that number has already reached at least 3,009

Journalism was already hard to get into — now it’s even harder to stay in it.

But this isn’t a crisis about statistics, it’s about real people who are struggling to work out what happens next. We’re going to solve things one person at a time, providing real, one-to-one support to those who need it most, exactly when they need it.

As an award-winning social enterprise that’s helped hundreds of thousands of people over the past decade, we know exactly what’s needed to move the dial to the next level, but we need your help to achieve it.

You Can Quadruple Our 1-2-1 Support

In a world filled with more content than ever, there’s no substitute for simply being listened to and given one-to-one advice from a real human. It’s the one thing our audience consistently tells us they value the most — but that can be almost impossible to access.

To put it simply, one-to-one support is costly to deliver because it requires real people giving their time to help others. And, at Journo Resources, one of our core beliefs is that everyone should be paid equitably for their time. That’s why many existing schemes only run once per year and are vastly oversubscribed. And it's why we’ve always sought to do things differently — and we can prove it works.

  • In collaboration with the Journalists’ Charity, we launched on-demand mentoring, allowing anyone to access human support straight away. In just 12 months, we’ve supported more than 300 people; 90 per cent say the session gave them confidence, practical next steps, and a new way of looking at things. They also gained jobs and commissions as a result.

  • When the pandemic closed traditional work experience schemes, we launched the Journo Resources Fellowship, a unique scheme combining a paid commission, in-depth editing feedback, and six months of tailored mentoring. Of the 60 journalists we’ve supported to date, 90 per cent went on to further paid work in the media, for employers including BBC News, Newsquest, The Financial Times, Positive News, The Guardian, and many more.

  • Just this year, we launched JR Pitch Club to help freelancers find more opportunities and better-paying work. Our innovative approach offers asynchronous pitch feedback, group pitching labs, and ask-me-anything events. Our members are already winning more commissions and have been published by Business Insider, Stylist, and Luxury Travel in the first quarter since launch.

We’re incredibly proud of these programmes, which have collectively helped almost 400 people. But, now, it’s time to take our support to the next level. We know these programmes work and, with your help, we can quadruple the number of people we reach and make a lasting impact not just on the journalism industry, but on individuals.

We’re fundraising £50,000 from our community, so we can individually support more than 1,200 people over the next 12 months. This will cover everything we need to deliver sessions, from marketing and administration, to delivery and reporting. And that’s just the beginning.

An Award-Winning Social Enterprise With A Track Record Of Impact

We started in our founder’s bedroom at 3am as a single-page website. A decade later, we’ve become one of the UK’s biggest and most trusted journalism resources, helping hundreds of thousands of people at all stages of their journalism careers.

We’ve worked with some of the biggest names in journalism, including News UK, the Financial Times, DMGT Media, and Reach Plc, as well as receiving some of the UK’s most prestigious awards for our work, including the Women in Journalism Georgina Henry Prize, DBACE, the NCTJ Awards for Excellence, and more.

We’ve done all of this without external investment or large cash injections; just imagine what we could do with them. As we turn 10, we’re not looking back at a decade of impact, but looking forward to how we can scale what works for the next decade. And you can help us get there. Support us now to help set the foundations of success for every journalist, every time.
