Jonny Wilkinson supports Hansa Class UK

The Prize

Jonny Wilkinson is supporting the GB Team of disabled sailors getting to the 2023 World Championships in Portimao, Portugal, by donating one of his signed black testimonial rugby balls.

Lara Sturgis, one of the members of disabled Hansa UK sailing team is a big rugby fan. Lara hugely admires Jonny Wilkinson for what Jonny achieved on the pitch and is Lara’s hero. Lara contacted Jonny to congratulate him on his new venture which is a podcast called “I am Jonny Wilkinson”, that she really enjoyed listening to. Lara also mentioned to Jonny that she had been selected to represent team GB at the World Championships in Portimao, Portugal. Lara is fundraising to help the team get to the World Championships. Jonny very kindly said that he would be happy to donate one of his signature signed black testimonial rugby balls.

Lara describes what Hansa racing does for her life, and the lives of many others.

“Sailability lets me get out of my wheelchair and enjoy the independence, and fresh air of being out in a sail boat.  I’m passionate about racing, and the Hansa Class allows me to follow my dream, competing around the UK and across the world.  We are all great friends and competitors, I’m so happy to be a part of it.” 

The Cause

The Hansa Class UK is a small charity which facilitates the opportunities to race across the UK.  This campaign is to support a GB Hansa Team to attend and to be competitive at the world championships in Portugal, October 2023. Funds are needed for coaching, safety support, and the transportation of the specialist equipment which is necessary to make sailing possible for people like Lara.
