The Jon Lloyd Quartet plays contemporary European jazz, influenced as much by world music as by jazz. We are: Jon Lloyd (saxophone, composer), John Law (piano), Nick Pini (double bass) and Alex Goodyear (drums). The four of us are UK based musicians, experienced in working within this distinctive field of music.
This music has a certain spiritual and emotional depth which separates it from conventional American jazz... folk music and world music weave their way in and the alchemy created makes for a really beautiful fusion of sounds. In the UK the music is not very commercial, and musicians playing it struggle financially to remain active within the genre.
We are planning to tour, teach educational workshops and take our music around the UK. To facilitate the work, we need to record a CD of original music and make available online downloads which will represent us publically. All music lives by being heard, and recorded music is an historic and important document for any group of musicians playing in any genre. Recordings are our books, our manifestos - they represent exactly what we do!
We want to raise £3000 to record and market our music, to get heard by more people in more places. When were you last moved by a concert? Music is one of THE big joys in life... but live music does not have to be an expensively ticketed stadium band we all know, or even a classical orchestra playing the known greats. It definitely does not need to be about stars courting fame and making money...
Small pockets of creative music exist all over the country, with musicians doing some really beautiful things. We need a little support because we think the music is worth it!
Take a listen and decide. Also the website jonlloydmusic.com offers a further idea of what we play.
