Big Brother Watch
12th May 2022Congratulations - COVID passes are gone!
Dear friends,
Today, with very little fanfare, the domestic NHS Covid Pass has been discontinued.
This means no venue or events operator will be able to require it as a condition of entry.
You should feel vindicated today!
The odds were stacked against us – but thanks to your incredible support, WE WON!
What next..?
At Big Brother Watch, we’ve been thinking about how we can make sure that mandatory Covid IDs never come back.
Governments are now thinking about how they should respond to future pandemics, and the WHO has just begun a two-year process of drafting a treaty for how the international community should respond.
We must be part of the conversation.
We will dedicate the remaining funds from this campaign to producing vital publications about how nation states can protect civil liberties in a pandemic. Crucially, we will carefully compile, publish, and promote evidence to submit to the forthcoming UK Covid-19 Public Inquiry to make sure the government learns the lessons from the incompetent, authoritarian nightmare of the past 2 years. And there is a lot to be learned from this dangerous experiment with digital IDs and domestic health passports.
What we did
This Crowdfunder ran from April 2021 to March 2022. Our costs were split across two legal challenges, team and personnel costs, and direct campaign costs. Thanks to your support, we were able to dedicate major staffing resources to this campaign for the year; instruct an expert legal team and pursue legal challenges in both England and Wales, including pressing for disclosure of an evidence basis for Covid passes; investigate the app and related contracts; produce research on the evidence base; hold anti-Covid Pass events around the country; design and print banners, placards, and thousands of leaflets and stickers; project a No Covid ID message onto parliament; produce countless briefings and lobby parliamentarians; run StopVaccinePassports.co.uk; put up billboards across the country; and secure mainstream media coverage along the way.

Despite all this, we've managed to reserve 25% of the fund! This remainder is now ringfenced for publications on protecting rights and liberties in a pandemic, and producing comprehensive, expert evidence for the public inquiry.
The UK Covid-19 Public Inquiry
The public inquiry could go on for many years. The terms of reference are currently being drafted following a consultation, to which we submitted a response. We have a brilliant fund to get started with and thanks to your support, we will be able to publish strong evidence that creates a legacy from this incredible campaign.
Stay in the loop
From now on, we will publish updates about this work to our mailing list, where will also send updates about all our vital work to protect rights and liberties in the UK - from tackling online censorship to challenging facial recognition surveillance, and much more.
So to stay in the loop, please make sure you subscribe to our mailing list.
Thank you for making history with us.
