Aim

To raise money to give financial support to the families affected by the Turkey-Syria Earthquake.

Hello, my name is Jo and I would like to start a fundraiser to raise financial support for the families who have been effected by the Turkey-Syria earthquake. 

On Monday 6th February I woke up to to headlines of major earthquake that struck the Turkish/Syrian border, measuring 7.8 magnitude, which was shortly followed by another measuring 7.5. magnitude. The extent of the damage caused is unbelievable. This has affected countries that are already suffering from poverty and victims of war, some of which are people who have been seeking refuge to somewhere safer, in hope of finding a better lifestyle. 

The sheer scale of damage is unimagineable. Whole towns have been almost flattened. People are without electricity, food and shelter. They have lost their homes, friends and family and on top of this, the temperatures are freezing and they have no where to go. they are having to make the choice of sleeping outside with the only clothes they have on their backs. In this day and age, nobody should have to find themselves in a situation like that. 

I feel deeply saddened to hear of the struggles that people are facing due to this horrific tragedy. Ever since the disaster took place, I wake up hoping that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for these victims but every day their efforts appear to be getting worse. 

It's touched me in such a way that I actually want to fly out there to support them but obviously it isn't always doable. so I want to do everything I possible can to support the victims where I can. 

It does make you realize how lucky we are but also how terribly awful I feel for anyone who has been affected by this dreadful tragedy.  

I am arranging a sponsored swim of 2 miles in a standard swimming pool, which equates to 120 lengths. This is to raise as many funds as I possibly can to help support the families that have been affected by the event. 

I would appreciate any financial support towards this fundraiser. Any gift could go a long way and these people need our support.
