Aim

To record and produce my new solo album.

*I'm delighted that Creative Scotland have agreed to match every donation on a £1 to £1 basis, up to a maximum of £250 per supporter.*

I’m a singer-songwriter from Scotland, living in Shetland. The songs I write are inspired by people and places - by landscape, nature, generational memory, and the stories that shape us.

My last album, The Living Mountain, was inspired by the hills of my childhood in Aberdeenshire and by Nan Shepherd’s book of the same name. That record marked a turning point for me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the warmth and love it has received from audiences over the years.

Since its release in 2020, I’ve been collaborating and writing music, including with bands Salt House and Birdvox, and songwriters MG Boulter and Boo Hewerdine.

Alongside these collaborations, I’ve been writing a new collection of songs  - developing and creating, slowly - and I’m delighted to say that I now have the material for my next solo record.

This album is my most ambitious album to date and is far from a solo endeavour. I’ll be joined by an incredible group of musicians including MG Boulter, Alice Allen, Patsy Reid, Ben Nicholls, Harry Bird and Andy Bell.

I’m now preparing to head into the studio to bring this record to life - an album exploring the relationships that shape our lives.  I’m so excited to finally share this new music with you.

What your contribution will support

Making an album is an expensive thing to do and it involves many different costs - studio hire, engineer and musician fees, mixing, mastering, album design and manufacturing the finished record, album artwork and PR.

Your support through this Crowdfunder will help make it possible to bring this album into the world. Funding will support:

  • the recording of the album with a stellar team of musicians
  • engineering and mixing by long term collaborator Andy Bell
  • album mastering
  • commissioning album artwork by Shetland artist Susan Pearson - who's work explores the power of making, inspired by place, folklore and identity
  • album design and distribution
  • promotion of the album in press/radio and online, both nationally and internationally

I will be contributing my own time and investing savings from sales of The Living Mountain to this new record. I'm delighted to be working with indie label Hudson Records, who will cover vinyl and CD book manufacture costs.

There are a number of rewards available, including:

  • Vinyl edition of the album
  • Album CD book (including photos, lyrics, artwork, inspiration behind the songs)
  • Digital album download
  • Artwork prints
  • Songwriting/mentoring sessions
  • Driftwood postcards

I know not everyone is in a position to contribute financially, but thank you so much for taking the time to read about this project. If you’re able to share the campaign with friends or family, that would mean a great deal.

Thanks for reading!
