A fundraiser for urgent roof repairs at Jaffna Achchuveli Saraswathy School (J/286).
Our charity partners, Paalam Project, have received a request for support for an urgent safety and infrastructure project at Jaffna Achchuveli Saraswathy School (J/286), located in Kopay. The school, was founded over 70 years ago and has been a vital educational institution for generations of children. Currently the building is facing a critical condition that places the safety and wellbeing of its students at serious risk.
The wooden roof panels of the main school building have severely deteriorated due to age and prolonged exposure to the elements. Several panels have already fallen, and others are at risk of collapsing. Despite these dangers, there are no alternative facilities to house these students. As a result, all 100 children are compelled to attend classes under a damaged and unstable roof.
With the monsoon season approaching, this situation has become urgent. Heavy rainfall and strong winds will further weaken the compromised structure, increasing the likelihood of injury and disruption to the children’s education.
To address this hazard, the school has sought our help to repair and rebuild the damaged roof as quickly as possible. The estimated cost for the full repair work is £2,500. This project is being carried out in partnership with the Kopay Divisional Secretariat Office and the Principal of Achchuveli Saraswathy School, ensuring accountability, proper oversight, and the responsible use of all funds received.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will directly protect the lives and futures of these children. By helping us create a safe learning environment, you will be investing in education, empowerment, and hope for an entire community.
Please support us in making this urgent safety repair possible. Anything you can contribute towards helping us achieve our target will be massively appreciated. Together, we can keep these children safe and preserve a school that has served its community for decades.
Thank you.
