We are raising money for Parkinson's UK to enable this fabulous charity to continue their vital work.

The Aviva Claims Supply Chain Team (ie the team I work in at Aviva) will be taking on the Peak District Ultra Challenge on June 28th this summer.  We had a go at this challenge last summer with the aim of raising £20k for WWF UK & Alzheimer's Society.  All 22 of us successfully completed our designated walking distances and raised a whopping £22k in total.

It was an amazing experience and enormously rewarding on multiple fronts; the sheer size of the challenge being more than matched by the support and generosity of our friends, family and communities.

Energised by this experience, we many of us have increased our distance targets, including myself (you can select 25/50/75/100km). I crawled over the 75km line at 5am last year and this June, (with more effective training!!), I hope to walk 100km, with a total climb of 2150m, in approximately 28 hours (continuous walking with only food/toilet breaks)!

This year our team of 22 will be raising funds for Parkinson's UK.  An amazing charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for those affected by the condition through research, support, and advocacy. This cause is particularly poignant because two members of  our Team, including my dear friend and Team captain Nick Mayhew,  recently lost a close family member who had been living with Parkinson's for several years.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. In the UK, around 153,000 people are currently living with Parkinson's disease. This number is expected to increase to approximately 172,000 by 2030 due to population growth and ageing. Every hour, two more people are diagnosed with Parkinson's. It can have a profound impact on the lives of those diagnosed, as well as their families and friends.
