In 2004, I saw Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor's "Long Way Round".
In 2006, I saw Charley Boorman's "Race to Dakar".
In 2019, I started riding bikes off-road, taking my dad's TTR250 out trail riding by myself for the first time.
These are arguably the 3 most pivotal moments of my life.
Since I was a child, I've had two dreams:
Ride around the world.
Race the Dakar.
I will acomplish both, but in the means time, there are some step stones.
Over the last couple of years, I've had my focus split between motorcycle travel, and competition. It's been a particularly difficult decision to focus on one or the other, as in my mind these two dreams, two goals, have equal weight.
I've been lucky enough to compete at an ameteur level, and for a self-taught late starter, do better than I could have expected!
I've also ridden my bike from the UK to South Africa - another priviledge not many get the chance at.
However I've come to a fork in the road. I (for the time being) only have the bandwidth for one goal. Whilst I'm young, healthy (ish), fit (debateable) and mend easily (apparently), I'm pursuing competition.
So that's it - Dakar.
In 2029, I'll race the Dakar.
Am I good enough? No
Fit enough? No
Have the money? I bloody wish!
But 5 years ago, I'd never ridden off road. Now teaching people is my job and my so called "hobby" is out of control!
So what's this page for?
Well I'm not asking you to start giving me money to Race the Dakar.
That's far too needy.
However, there are a number of events that I wish to do in the run up to it, and as a part of these, I want to raise as much money for charity as possible.
This year, I'll be racing the Dawn to Dusk 24 Hour Enduro Solo, raising money for Parkinson's UK.
You can read about that, and donate here
But these events do take a significant amount of time and money to race - so if you'd like to support some of my personal costs towards this, then please support me here.
All of the funding that comes in through this page will go towards the costs of racing the Dawn to Dusk.
For interest, here are some of the costs involved:
Entry: ~£260
Bike fuel: ~£100
Tyres and mousses: ~£400
Other things include van fuel, spares, servicing the bike.
The most important thing to me is that the charity does well out of this. So if you've only got a little to give, don't give it to me - give it to the charity.
Stay tuned for updates.
