Help us raise funds to support the Manchester Village Spartans in attending The Inclusive Rugby 'World Cup' in Brisbane!
Hello!
We're Harley and Ben, and we both play rugby for Manchester Village Spartans, the world’s second-ever LGBTQIA+ Rugby Club and a founding member of International Gay Rugby.
We are raising funds to cover the costs of our team travelling to Brisbane in August, to compete in The 'World Cup' of Inclusive Rugby, known as the Bingham Cup. It is named in memory of Mark Bingham, a gay rugby player and one of the heroes who died on United Airlines Flight 93, thwarting the hijackers during the 9/11 attacks.
Since its inception in 2002, the tournament has grown into an international cornerstone of the sporting calendar, promoting diversity and inclusion through Rugby.
We felt it only fitting as UK-based club to cycle between two iconic cities of the LGBTQIA+ community, starting our ride in Manchester's Gay Village and finishing in Brighton's Kemptown.
The Tandem bike in question was donated by one of our own players, who had some of their wedding photos taken on it over 10 years ago! It has since been fixed up and restored by the team at Pop Up Bikes in Manchester, and ready for our mammoth journey down to the South Coast!
