Help us set up and develop girls district football teams in Islington.
Islington District Girls Football was set up in 2023 by former Arsenal and England player, Ellen Maggs. She recognised that while grassroots football was taking off, there was a total lack of equality for girls in Islington at a district and county level and she was determined to establish the same opportunities that exist for the boys football development.
District football is about giving talented players a chance to compete and train at a higher level and to represent their community. There are currently district teams for Islington boys from Yr 6 - Yr 10 and in the spirit of the FA campaign to Let Girls Play, we want every girl to have equal access to football in schools and community.
The plans to run a Islington Girls District Team has been jeapordized by a loss of funding.
With a Year 6 and Year 7 team selected and ready to start the season, there is no money to run the training session or pay for pitches and we face losing girls district football before it's had a chance to get established.
It is Ellen's passion to make football accessible for all and for that reason, district football training and matches have to remain free of charge for those involved. We are fundraising to run these sessions.
The money raised will be used to enter the girls in the league, to pay for coaches for training and to pay for pitches.
We have trialled over 100 girls in the past year, showing the level of desire and enthusiasm for district football. Our first girls team in 2022/23 had a successful season, winning the Inner London County Seven a side tournament and the David Grisdale Shield.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
