Help bring ISCARIOT to the screen — a feature film exploring the man behind history's most infamous betrayal, Judas Iscariot.
ISCARIOT
What if history remembered the act… but misunderstood the man?
For two thousand years, one name has become synonymous with betrayal.
Judas Iscariot.
His name has been used to describe traitors. His actions have been condemned across generations. His story appears to be settled.
But what if it isn't?
ISCARIOT is a feature film that asks audiences to look again at one of history's most condemned figures — not simply as the man who betrayed Jesus Christ, but as a son, a brother, a friend, a disciple and a man of faith.
A man who loved.
A man who doubted.
A man who suffered.
And perhaps, a man who sacrificed far more than history remembers.
THE FILM
ISCARIOT is a historical drama told primarily through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.
We meet Judas long before the betrayal.
We see the family that shaped him, the losses that changed him and the faith he struggles desperately to hold onto.
Then he encounters Jesus.
What begins as curiosity becomes friendship, belonging and eventually profound belief.
For the first time in years, Judas begins to believe that perhaps God has not abandoned him.
But that faith will ultimately demand something devastating from him.
ISCARIOT explores the possibility that Judas' final actions were not motivated simply by greed or treachery, but by an impossible choice between friendship, faith, destiny and sacrifice.
This is not an attempt to rewrite anyone's faith.
It is an invitation to consider a familiar story from a perspective rarely explored.
To meet the man before judging the act.
WHY I NEED TO TELL THIS STORY
My name is Gregory Affonso, and I am the writer and intended director of ISCARIOT.
I grew up in Trinidad surrounded by Christian faith.
But I have always asked questions.
Even as a child, I found myself questioning priests and teachers about the things I didn't understand. And one person in the story of Jesus continually troubled me.
Judas.
Something about the simplicity of his condemnation never sat comfortably with me.
I have always found myself looking at situations from the perspective of the person nobody else seems willing to understand. I have always had sympathy for the underdog — particularly the person whose story appears to have already been decided for them.
Over the years, that curiosity about Judas became something much more personal.
I have also had my own battles with God.
The loss of my sister and later my father changed my relationship with faith. There were times when I was angry with God. Times when I questioned Him. Times when I couldn't understand why things had happened.
And yet somehow, I was still talking to Him.
When I began writing Judas, I started recognising some of those feelings in him.
Loss.
Anger.
Faith.
Doubt.
The feeling that nobody truly understands what is happening inside you.
ISCARIOT gradually became more than a screenplay.
Perhaps it became my own conversation with God.
Perhaps even my public prayer that, despite everything, I'm still here.
WHERE ISCARIOT IS TODAY
This is no longer simply an idea for a film.
The feature screenplay is complete and officially registered with the Writers Guild of America.
The project has moved into professional development and packaging.
We have developed the screenplay, synopsis, treatment, character material, visual lookbook, pitch deck, preliminary production breakdown and preliminary shooting schedule.
The current production model envisages approximately 35 days of principal photography, with a preliminary feature-film budget of approximately £5.75 million.
We are now beginning the next stage:
Taking ISCARIOT from screenplay toward production.
And that is what this campaign is designed to help us accomplish.
OUR FIRST TARGET — £25,000
We are not pretending that £25,000 will finance a £5.75 million feature film.
It won't.
Feature films of this scale are normally financed through several sources — producers, investors, distributors, sales companies, public film funds, tax incentives and other financing partners.
The purpose of this campaign is different.
Your support allows us to build the professional package necessary to approach those partners.
£25,000 — PACKAGE ISCARIOT
Our first milestone will help fund areas such as:
Producer and industry engagement
Casting development
Legal and business affairs
Location research
Production planning
Finance packaging
Professional presentation materials
Development of the film's visual world
And the work required to begin taking ISCARIOT seriously into the international film industry.
IF WE GO FURTHER
Every milestone allows us to move ISCARIOT closer to the screen.
£50,000 — BUILD THE WORLD
Expanded location scouting.
Production-design development.
Costume concepts.
Visual development.
Previsualisation of key sequences.
Early technical planning for the world of Judea.
£75,000 — BRING ISCARIOT TO LIFE
At this level, our ambition is to begin creating professional filmed material from the world of ISCARIOT.
That could include screen tests, proof-of-concept material or a cinematic teaser designed to demonstrate the tone, performances and visual language of the feature.
£100,000 — TAKE ISCARIOT TO MARKET
Reaching £100,000 would allow us to significantly accelerate the professional packaging of the project.
Our aim would be to take a substantially developed ISCARIOT package into conversations with producers, sales agents, distributors, financiers, film funds and international markets.
It would not mean the entire feature was financed.
It would mean we had given ISCARIOT the strongest possible opportunity to become financed.
WHY CROWDFUND?
Money is only one reason.
There is another.
Audience.
The film industry needs to know whether people actually want to see a story like this.
Every person who supports this campaign becomes evidence that audiences are willing to reconsider Judas.
Imagine being able to approach a producer and say:
Thousands of people have already supported this film.
They haven't seen it yet.
They simply believe this story deserves to be told.
That could be incredibly powerful.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT TELLING YOU WHAT TO BELIEVE
Some people will agree with the film's interpretation of Judas.
Some will disagree completely.
That's okay.
ISCARIOT isn't asking audiences to abandon their beliefs.
It asks something much simpler:
What if we spent two hours seeing the world through Judas' eyes?
What would we discover?
Would we hate him?
Would we understand him?
Would we forgive him?
Or would we leave the cinema still believing exactly what we believed when we entered?
The film doesn't need everyone to agree.
It simply needs us to ask the question.
HELP US BEGIN THE JOURNEY
For centuries, history has remembered Judas Iscariot for one moment.
ISCARIOT asks audiences to consider the lifetime that came before it.
The son.
The brother.
The friend.
The believer.
The doubter.
The disciple.
And ultimately, the man.
If that is a story you believe deserves to be told, I would be honoured to have you become part of the journey.
Support the campaign.
Share it.
Talk about it.
Challenge it.
Ask questions.
Help us take ISCARIOT from the page to the screen.
