Aim

In just six years, Invisible East has become an internationally-recognised research initiative. Can you back this urgent funding appeal?

Invisible East is a research programme at the University of Oxford dedicated to recovering the lost voices of the medieval Persianate world. It was launched in 2020 thanks to funding from the European Commission and a UK research council. These funds run out in summer 2026. This appeal has been launched to ensure that Invisible East can continue its activities and evolve into a self-reliant centre. No donation is too small. Check out our rewards below!

The programme's goals include:

Schools outreach: expand a schools initiative to reach over 1,000 pupils per year in the UK, Afghanistan and beyond.

Academic publishing: grow the Islamicate East series of Edinburgh University Press, adding five further titles to the three volumes already published.

Digital humanities and exhibitions: grow the Invisible East Digital Corpus from 1,300 to 2,500 texts and increase its global reach from 40,000 to 100,000 users. Curate a UK-based exhibition at a leading museum, bringing overlooked histories to life through artefacts and immersive media. 

By contributing to this appeal, you will enable the study and public engagement on this precious and little-known heritage.
