Install Solar Panels To Power Otter Rescue Centre

Aim

We are raising money to install solar panels at our otter rescue centre to supply renewable energy to our cub pens and hospitals.

We're dedicated to promoting a positive understanding of otter conservation, and raising awareness of the species through education, involvement, and engagement. We rescue, rehabilitate and release back into the wild, injured and orphaned Eurasian otters, from our specialist otter rehabilitation centre in Devon.

The UKWOT is made up of a small team of volunteers, none of whom receives any payment for the work that they do. We are made up of Dave Webb - the founder, a group of volunteers who helped build the otter rehabilitation site, and a team which runs the shop, fundraising, and social media.

Our vision with this project is to purchase solar panels to supply renewable energy to our cub pens and hospitals. As a charity we are passionate about doing what we can to help save the planet; including campaigning for plastic reduction, using ethically sourced materials whenever possible and now taking the next step to using renewable energy. 

We welcomed the first rescued Eurasian otters to our newly built specialist otter rehabilitation centre in 2021. We moved from our smaller original site to increase our capacity for helping these vulnerable animals.  In 2022, we rescued 31 orphaned and injured otters and released 28 rehabilitated otter back into the wild. So far in 2023, we have rescued 21 orphaned and injured otters and released 9 rehabilitated otter back into the wild.
