On the 5th February 2024 we'd raised £24,060 with 126 supporters in 198 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Update: We have secured the Inn! We've come a long way since we launched this campaign and have finally been successful in a community buyout. We also launched a Share Offer, to help raise more funds for running and development costs, which is available until the end of August 2024. Full details can be found on the KCDT website. We will keep you updated with news and dates for your diary. In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support!
Donations are still welcome here but the Share Offer is also an ideal way to invest in the project and have a say in the future of The Inn.
Our community is ready to bring this new hub to life...
The results are in! The recent Community Enterprise Survey (2022-23) demonstrates overwhelming support for transforming the Inn at Kingsbarns into a community-owned hub in the heart of our village.
"I would love there to be a community owned cafe/restaurant and a small shop. It’s something the village desperately needs. I would use it.”
“[It would be] a chance to meet others from the village in a social way as I often see people around but don’t actually get to know them.”
- Respondents, Community Enterprise Survey, 2023
When people were asked which new services they would like to see in a community-owned Inn at Kingsbarns, survey results showed most would love food and drink, a shop, and live events to be at the heart of the hub:-
• Café. Most popular option, with 96% of respondents supporting it, including 90% saying that they would use it themselves.
• Community Shop. Very popular option. 94% of respondents support it, and 86% would use it.
• Social events/live music. Very popular option. 92% of respondents support the idea, and 83% say that they would attend such events in Kingsbarns.
We're over the moon to confirm the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) has approved a Grant of £590,000 towards the purchase of Inn at Kingsbarns.
Whilst this is a wonderful step in the right direction, there’s still a way to go to make the Community Hub a reality. We must now raise additional funds to cover the cost of purchasing the Inn, fitting-out a shop, upgrading the bar, and first year running costs.
There will be two fundraising phases:
We're currently in our first round (phase 1) of fundraising and for the price of a pint - or maybe a round of drinks - you could help make this historic purchase! All donations are welcome, however large or small. Every single donation will count towards crowdfunding our buyout of the Inn at Kingsbarns and creating a community-owned hub. We're also counting on you to spread the word in your community, on social media, and beyond. Please, please, please, share this Crowdfunder with anyone who loves Kingsbarns and invite them to join #theINNcrowd.
Also, don't forget to check out these fabulous, limited availability rewards for especially generous donations:-
Donate £20 or more and you could be visiting the Inn at Kingsbarns to enjoy a delicious, freshly cooked meal for four!
Ready to dig deep and help us secure the Inn at Kingsbarns for our community?
The Inn at Kingbarns is up for sale. Our village shop has already gone. After a successful community consultation in 2022, Kingsbarns Community Development Trust (KCDT) set the wheels in motion to purchase the pub for the community and turn it into a Community Hub, adding a shop to provide for essential needs and a cafe for uplifting, everyday catch ups.
Once the community has raised sufficient funds to buy the Inn, the KCDT charity will own the building and a registered Community Benefit Society will be the trading company, responsible for managing the Inn and maximising profit for other community related ventures and activity. A paid professional manager will be employed to run the hub.
A huge amount of work has been done up to now, to secure the appropriate funds needed to purchase the property. Our first stage was to submit an application to the Scottish Land Fund (SLF) which was successful, raising £590,000.
We'll continue fundraising efforts to buy the Inn and post regular updates here. You can also sign up for email updates on our website: kingsbarnsdevtrust.org/#signup.

Remember, whether you want a pint of milk or a pint of beer, lunch with friends or a night of live music, our community hub will serve the whole village - and beyond.
Together we can make this happen AND we could soon be celebrating together in our community-owned Inn at Kingsbarns!

Cheers!
