Aim

Help us to bring a second Inland Art Festival to Redruth; filling the town with contemporary art envisaging weird and wonderful futures!

If you made it to Inland Art Festival in September 2014, you would have seen some of the many film screenings, performances, interactive installations and workshops that filled the town for 4 days. We were overwhelmed by the quality and range of artwork and projects contributed by the 90 artists and 7 local arts organisations involved and many of the 4000 or so of you who visited agreed with us...

“It has been a fantastic opportunity to access buildings [you] usually can’t see, and that all this is happening in Redruth!”

“I have enjoyed the interactivity, the playfulness. It is accessible and has engaged the whole town in different ways.”

“It has been extremely invigorating. I have loved the use of buildings and the top quality art on show!”

“Thanks for your part in making my home town beautiful to me again. [I] had such a lovely weekend. Thank you”

“People felt something positive. I felt proud!”

So, now we need your help to make a second Inland Art Festival a reality!

We’re sticking to the same structure; project funds for local art organisations, an open call for artists selected by a top panel, a curated selection of exciting contemporary work, film screenings, talks, workshops and interactive art in a range of interesting locations in the heart of Redruth.

Redruth was once the richest town in the world. The monetary wealth has all but gone but it’s still one of the richest towns we know, full of amazing buildings, a rich history and a dynamic, unique community. For 2016, the Inland team plan to embark upon The Future Project; exploring some of the ways these foundations can be built upon to imagine possible and impossible futures.

Bringing together art, environment, architecture, music, performance and heritage, The Future Project will be a platform for weird and wonderful future visions. Inland will commission new works, show art that explores utopian ideas and creates space for communities to come together and develop ideas through collaboration and conversation.

We want to keep the festival free and open to as many people as possible. We’ve been working hard on raising the money for that already. Redruth Town Council, FEAST and Arts Council England are ready to support us, provided we can also raise money from elsewhere.

If you can help us raise around £5,000 this would go a long way to making the festival a reality.

So please, check out our fab rewards, give what you can and share this campaign!

FAQs

I want to make a different size donation or would like to become an official festival sponsor how can I do this?

Great! We're happy to discuss different donations however small or large, we also have a range of sponsorship packages available.

Please get in touch [email protected]

Will the festival be free?

Yes, the plan is that all elements of the festival will be free, with the possible exception of a nominal fee of around £2 for screenings in the local cinema.

How will you spend the money?

  • We’re planning to commission artists to work with the community and create new works, especially for Redruth.
  • We need to insure the event and the works on show in the festival.
  • We will pay to transport and install all works.
  • There will be fees for artists, workshop leaders and speakers, as well as for someone to document the festival.
  • We’ll print posters and flyers and tell the world about the festival.
  • Some of the money will go to local arts organisations who will organise their own projects for the festival.
  • We’ll renew our WordPress subscription and update the website!
  • We offer expenses to the many volunteers who help make the festival possible.
  • Everyone involved in organising the festival from design to delivery gives some time unpaid and will get paid a small fee for the rest.

Who runs Inland?

Inland Art Festival was established by a group of local artists and organisers: Jane Lowry, Patrick Lowry, Liam Jolly, Cat Bagg, Rosie Thomson-Glover and Alice Mahoney.

Cat, Rosie and Alice manage the festival as an unincorporated community organisation.

How can I get involved?

Our open call for artists will go live once we know we’ve secured enough money for the Festival to happen in October. This will probably by in June.

There will be 2 residencies supported by Cornwall College available via application. This opportunity will be advertised from May.

Volunteer for us! There are lots of different things we need help with in the run up to and particularly during the festival. Get in touch and find out more.

Come to the festival and enjoy the fruits of your donation!

I’m not that into art...will I still enjoy it?

Yes!

The art at Inland celebrates traditional practices but also leaps beyond the boundaries of what people assume art might be!

There will be a wild indoor community garden full of things to make and do, a live music night, walks to explore the local area and much much more...

What do the rewards look like?

Above are images of the prints by Rosalie Schweiker and Jo Waterhouse that you can receive as rewards for pledges of £50 or £75, followed by an image of the Inland Screen Print designed by Alice Mahoney and Stuart Blackmore that you can receive as a reward for pledges of £25/£40. We'll release more images and information about rewards as the campaign goes on - so watch this space!
