On 14 January 1893, 130 people gathered in Bradford with a burning intention - to tackle the appalling inequality and working conditions in the country and create a society in which working people were represented, supported and could vote. One of the many things to emerge from this extraordinary gathering of activists and grassroots organisations was the formation of the Independent Labour Party and the birth of democratic socialism, a movement that led to the provision of free education, votes for women and the formation of the NHS.

Now, 130 later, another 130 people are going to gather with the same intention - politics is no longer working for us, society seems broken, we have rising inequality, an environmental crisis. We need a new vision, a new movement, a fresh start.

Our aim is to gather doers not talkers, grassroots not career politicians, and create a new vision, an agreement on what we need to work on, to connect and galvanise people to act, to replace despair with hope.

We need your support. As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said when campaigning against the odds - we have the people, they have the money. We do have the people, but we do need some money. Not much, just enough to pay the venue - Manningham Mills (where the strike that led to the original gathering started) to use their space (which they are offering very cheaply) - and some basic bits and pieces to make the day work.

A few pounds will help. One of the outputs of the event will be a banner like the mural above from the original gathering. Everyone who donates £10 or more will get their name on the banner. And if you are interested in how you might be involved, please contact us.
