Aim

To provide equal access to rowing by purchasing two new double/pair boats for medium- and heavyweight athletes, ensuring everyone can train

Who are we?

Ironbridge Rowing Club is a friendly, community-driven club on the River Severn, welcoming rowers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Run entirely by volunteers, our members range from juniors discovering the sport to masters and senior athletes competing at national level.

Our mission is simple: to make rowing open to everyone. We believe that no athlete should be limited by a lack of suitable equipment. With your help, we can make sure every member has the opportunity to row in a boat that fits them and allows them to reach their potential.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding to buy two new double/pair sculling boats, one for mediumweight and one for heavyweight crews.

At present, our fleet does not provide the right options for all athletes. This means some members cannot train or compete effectively because boats are too small or unsuitable for their weight range. This project will close that gap by giving every rower, regardless of build, equal opportunity to take part in training and competition.

This aligns with the Inclusive Project Grant’s aim to improve access and participation in community sport. By expanding our fleet, we will remove barriers, grow participation, and ensure fair access for all.

How we’ll spend the money raised

All funds will go directly towards the purchase of two new racing shells to expand our inclusive fleet:

Heavyweight 2x/-For male and female heavyweight crews to train and race £10,500
Mediumweight 2x/-For mixed and mediumweight crews £10,500
Stretchers, riggers and accessories Blades, Riggers and Equipment £2,000
Safety and setup costs Boat racking, insurance and delivery £600
Fee's £1,000 for transactions

Total Target: £24,600
If we hit £11,800 then Sport England Movement Fund will match the £11,800, if we raise over £11,800 then we will still get £11,800 but it will help us buy better equipment.

Every contribution will directly help athletes who are currently limited by lack of suitable boats to take part fully in the sport.

Community impact

This project will have an impact far beyond two boats.

  • It will enable equal participation for athletes who have previously been unable to race due to lack of appropriate equipment.
  • It will encourage retention and growth, especially among adult and masters members who want to continue rowing competitively.
  • It will support inclusivity across genders, body types and ages, ensuring everyone can row together safely and competitively.
  • It will strengthen community sport in Ironbridge by offering a broader range of participation opportunities and inspiring new members to join.

By supporting this project, you will be helping us create a fairer, more accessible and more competitive environment for all.
