Who are we?
Conwy Disabled Archery are a friendly club. We welcome people with any disability, their families and carers to take part in archery.
Our aim is to offer archery to more people and more groups. The social benefit of just 150 minutes of exercise is around £6000.
Why are we crowdfunding?
At the moment we are really struggling with the current venue. It’s too small because we have a growing waiting list and it hasn’t a disabled toilet. The nearest AED is around ten minutes away.
1. We really do need our own building to accommodate more people and be open 24/7. This is our ultimate goal.
2. We want to run sessions for visually impaired children and young adults. To do this we need some specialist equipment called a tactile sight. This enables a person with a visual impairment to safely shoot an arrow towards a target.
3. We could really use a trailer to transport our events kit around. This would save having to use up to three vehicles for the events we run an archery range for. Having a trailer would lessen the environmental impact of using three vehicl
How we’ll spend the money raised
We guarantee that any and all of your donations will be used to get more people taking part in archery for the good of the community and the people who come in to contact with us through archery.
Our priority will be the tactile sights these are around £100 each
The second item would be the trailer.
Next is going to be a much longer term ambition of our own archery range either in a building or outdoors, a 2 acre field or a small accessible wood.
Community impact
The community impact would be tremendous. Our disabled archers already travel from Anglesey and Flintshire. Conwy is right in the middle of North Wales so we think this is an ideal location.
Activity Alliance has researched the social impact of 150 mins a week for exercise to be beneficial but even 60 minutes has a social value of £4000 per year. This is a monetary value put in terms of benefit to a disabled person of more exercise, social interactions, mental health and a reason to get out of their home for a few hours.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our targets and make this project a reality and a success.
1. Make a pledge. Please don’t delay if you are going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get. So even if you can’t spare us a little money this will still really help.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out, name a target after you and advertise on our social media as a valued supporter.
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
