I am a Ugandan changemaker and have written an inspirational song for African youth and I want to produce a video that can promote the song
Please see the attached document below, written entirely by one of my students, 22 year old, Francis Ssuuna, who is a musically-talented young man, with a mission to inspire changemakers in Uganda. Our charity supports young changemakers and Francis has a wonderful track record of achievement. Please read his piece below.
I’m Francis Ssuuna/Christal King, currently a student at Makerere University studying a bachelor’s degree in Social Development.
I’m also one of the Butterfly members belonging to the very first cohort that was started by Ben Parkinson in 2009. The Butterfly project has grown from strength to strength and this year they will be recruiting their 5th cohort of young and talented gifted children, who they will train to become change makers.
Being one of the pioneers in this amazing project has helped me become a social entrepreneur who is passionate about changing other people’s lives.
In August 2017, the Chrysalis Youth Empowerment network received a number of items from Birmingham that were transported in a container and among these, included two pianos, which I started taking advantage of and learning a bit about music with Ben as my trainer.
In December 2017, I recorded a song, titled, “In Africa” to change people’s lives and to inspire them to love Africa. Just in a period of less than one month the song has received massive recognition beyond my expectations.
Yesterday, 14th January, I received an invitation at a local radio station known as, “Magic 100fm” to talk about my work as a social entrepreneur and why I came up with this song about Africa. The interview went really well and ever since people have been asking me to send them the song on their cell phones.
After the interview, I was advised to work on a professional Video to spread the message even further. To do this I’ll need 555 pounds and another additional 445 pounds to promote the song. However the guys at magic 100fm promised that they will help me with promotion once the video is out and I shall not worry much about the promotion fees.
The shooting will take place in three locations around Kampala and will take place over three days. We'll need a drone camera to create impact and a still photographer, to take stills during the process and we will also need to hire dancers throughout the shoot. After the shooting we will need to hire an editor and videographer.
Therefore, I humbly request you to become part of this amazing transformation by offering yourself a small donation to make this dream come true.
If you are reading my blogs for the first time, you might also be interested in reading about the different things that I’m doing as a social entrepreneur, continue reading below;
In 2012 I started Slum Run an annual running event that is participated in the slums of Acholi Quarters. It’s main aim is to change the lives of children in the stone quarries in Acholi quarters, by giving them athletics coaching, a means to pay their school fees and requirements through sponsorship in a run once each year, thus removing their need to work in the quarry again.
In 2017’s Slum Run we had more than 800 local kids that attended the run, this year we expect the number of the kids to double last year’s as we will be doing the 7th annual Slum Run which will take place on the 28th of October.
The Vision for Change
A project that was started to empower young people become change makers by teaching them the art of visionary thinking. I started the Vision for Change project in 2012 and I have been able to reach out to 45 young people in four different districts in Uganda and these include, Lyantonde, Mbale,Kampala and in Kitgum.
In 2015 I made a trip to East Africa with Mansoor - also a member of the Butterfly Project. The main motives for this trip were:
To conclude, this trip was a big success and it has enabled young people in east Africa come togther to create positive change.
In the middle of 2015, I developed an online mentoring program for the vision for change members. The program looks at connecting our members to the professional social entrepreneurs worldwide. Weekly trainings are carried out on Skype for a period of 3 months, giving young people an experience of discovering what it is to a social entrepreneur.
Currently, on the Vision for Change, I’m working on a book called the, “Vision For change training curriculum” This book is meant to teach and provide information to young people about social entrepreneurship and with such a curriculum that suits everyone’s understanding.
A vision is a gift and can only come to you if you offer yourself to claim it, “with selfless intentions of changing the world, your vision becomes a blessing to others and to yourself"
