Regenerate our community area in Westhoughton
We did it
On 3rd May 2019 we successfully raised £3,500 with 38 supporters in 63 days

Our aim is to install an outdoor gym and sports facilities at our Community Centre, to encourage residents to improve their wellbeing.

 New stretch target

we will continue to improve the facilities and address all other areas that need repair or improvement for the good of the local community including planting flowers, adding more bins etc

The John Holt community centre is run by a group of volunteers that took over the running of the centre early 2012, our vision was to transform an old underused Community centre into a place for all the community to use and enjoy on a daily basis. After six years we are very close to achieving our goal with just the outside of the centre and its surrounding areas to finish.

Along with centre we also took over the adjoining MUGA ( Multi Use Games Area), over the years this has become run down with repairs not taking place and general neglect to such an extent that the local community simply called it "the cage" as sadly that is what it had become.

Our plans include an outdoor gym, fully marked out 5 a side football pitch, basketball courts, community gardens, benches, timed floodlights, and a general makeover of the existing facilities so that the community as a whole can enjoy their local communal area. This will be a much-needed facility in our Community, encouraging residents to improve their health, fitness and well-being and to encourage Community cohesion.

Regular exercise improves both physical and mental well-being; and this will have benefits for the wider community as well as the individual.  Our centre is in the middle of a large social housing estate that has large unemployment figures and lack of opportunities. Many people are discouraged from exercising by the lack of opportunities or facilities locally or the high cost of gym membership which many cannot afford.

We have been able to secure a large amount of funding towards the project but we are still a little short of the final total for the project to be completed.

The John Holt Community Centre is used for many community events and by many community groups of all ages, if the outside area was updated and improved it would give us so much potential, the children and adults would be able to play 5 a side football, basketball, rounders etc all members of the community would be able to use the outdoor gym which also includes access and equipment for people with disabilities.

Bolton at Home, our local social housing provider have given their full backing to the project.

Many hours of planning have gone into the project over the last two years and it may seem ambitious but we know that it is achievable and with your help it can happen – Please help Our Community.
