I am a Ghanaian woman who came to the UK in 2013 with my husband on a spouse visa. In 2016 an application to extend my status was rejected because I was taken advantage of by a fraudulent lawyer, this resulted in my visa expiring and me becoming undocumented.
Since then, I have made many applications without the support of a lawyer which all failed because of how complicated Home Office applications are. During this time my husband and I have spent over £20,000 on visa and lawyer fees, this has made our financial situation even more precarious.
Over the past 9 years, I have been fighting and waiting for the opportunity to gain status in the UK. A lack of status has meant that I could not even travel to visit Ghana when my Mum passed away. My husband and community are in the UK, since 2024 I have been supported by a charity called Haringey Migrant Support Centre who have at last found a reputable lawyer who can represent me in my case, after waiting a long time I now have the opportunity to make an application to gain status in the UK.
The hostile immigration laws in the UK have made it too costly and difficult for me to proceed with my application without a lawyer. I desperately need your help in raising this money so I can live my life to the fullest with my family and friends.
Once I raise this money, all proceeds will go towards paying my lawyer and the application fees, the breakdown of the costs is:
£3000 including VAT = fees for my lawyer
£3908.50 = Home Office application fees and Health Surcharge
At a time when migrant and other marginalised communities are under attack from the far right, media and politicians, material solidarity and support from each other is more important than ever.
Thank you for all your support!
