Aim
We need your help to repair and refurbish our newly-secured nine-bedroom refuge, providing a safe space for women and girls fleeing abuse.
At IKWRO we support Middle Eastern, North African and Afghan women and girls who have experienced "honour" based abuse, forced marriage, domestic abuse and FGM by offering them safety at our specialist refuge. Often women arrive at the refuge with nothing and depleted of hope. We provide them with advice and counselling every step of the way as they begin to rebuild their lives.
In May 2015 IKWRO opened the first specialist refuge for women and girls fleeing the harmful practices. Since opening, the refuge has continuously remained full and we have been in need of extra space to support our clients. We have now been able to secure a new nine-room refuge space, however we need your help with repairs and refurbishments.
Therefore, today we are launching a crowd funding appeal. All donations provide a huge amount of support to the IKWRO refuge.
As a guide, for refurbishments:
- £20 can contribute towards a kettle or a toaster for the women at our refuge
- £50 can contribute toward a microwave
- £100 can contribute towards bedding
- £220 can contribute towards a bed and mattress for one woman in refuge
- £500 can contribute towards fully refurbishing a room for a woman at our refuge
As a guide, for repairs:
- £50 can contribute toward changing the wiring and placing a socket
- £120 can contribute towards the cost of a handyman doing repairs at the refuge
- £300 can contribute toward hiring an 8-yard skip to clean the refuge
- £450 can contribute towards laying new carpet at one of the rooms in refuge
- £600 can contribute towards decorating a room at the refuge
- £2700 can contribute towards a new boiler for the refuge
