Aim

Limavady Youths want our club to grow and thrive again after a few years of crushing setbacks, allowing us to create a girls section.

Who are we?

Limavady Youths FC are a grassroots football team who provide facilities for children and young people to train and play matches on a weekly basis. Our club is managed and led by volunteers, with over 250 children currently involved across 20 teams. Our club provides football for all abilities and backgrounds.

Limavady Youth's don't have their own facilities, so we hire local pitches at Scroggy Road 3G and Limavady High School. We are committed to developing good people and good footballers, with inclusivity, respect and teamwork embedded within all club activities.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding as the Club has been negatively impacted by the prolonged periods of restrictions and lockdowns placed on sport. These negative impacts have included; reduced number of club volunteers; reduced number of members, particularly girls; the inability to generate funds due to inactivity in periods of lockdown and restrictions, resulting in increased financial pressures; more challenging environment for existing coaches due to the impact of Covid 19 on players wellbeing.

By crowdfunding to provide a new football initiative for girls and providing a volunteer recruitment and development programme, we feel we can overcome challenges brought about as a result of Covid 19.

Current provision has no standalone provision for girls, so we want to use funding to provide facilities and equipment to provide 4 hours per week with additional 1-2 hours during May and Junefor girls to play sport, targeting children from 6 - 18 years, over a 15 week period.

As part of our project, we need to recruit and upskill coaches and volunteers to support the emergence of the girls section. Volunteer and coach development will also help existing coaches within other sections of the club to better support players, grow our membership and reduce pressures. The volunteer education programme will include safeguarding, IFA coaching courses and first aid courses.

We feel the club would then be a position to sustain increased participation levels within the girls section.

What are our project costs?

We are crowdfunding to:

- Create new weekly football programs for girls to attend, which will be run in addition to our existing programs and services. We plan to provide weekly ‘come try it sessions’ periods for girls aged 6-18 years. This will provide 4 hours per week for 15 weeks at Scroggy Road 3G pitch in Limavady with additional 1-2 hours during May & June. Funding will assist with the costs of hiring appropriate facilities. £3600.

- To provide a new coach development program to support the needs of our existing coaches and attract new coaches. Funding will support the costs of upskilling through first aid courses, IFA qualifications and provide volunteer coaches with resources to do their job safely and comfortably. £4000.

- To purchase equipment and resources, such as balls, bibs, cones, and poles to support the delivery of these football sessions. Funding will reduce the costs for players and their families, reducing barriers to participation. £1500.

- Develop new girls teams within the club at various age groups, supporting their full integration into club activities. Funding will assist with the costs of setting up teams and providing kits for them to play matches and represent the club. This will be directly linked to our new sports sessions and volunteer development program, ensuring we have the capacity to start and sustain new teams.  £1000.

The Crowdfunder initiative will help towards the costs of these new programs which will help our club to build back better from Covid 19.

The project will increase participation in sports and physical activity, enabling more female players to access football activities and join a team. We feel that with improved capacity and upskilling, volunteers can provide better services for all areas of our club.

Being part of a team helps promote a strong sense of self-esteem, encourages new friendships, brings a feeling of belonging and increases confidence. Donations will ensure we can continue to sustain our activities, increase physical fitness, develop good mental health, and maintain a positive attitude. Children will continue to build relationships with their coaches and teammates.

Community impact

Limavady Youths play an important role in our community. Our weekly activities provide an opportunity for young people to come together and mix on a cross community basis. By playing football, they engage within a fun social activity, make friends and improve their wellbeing. The families of players are part of our club too - they provide transport, coaching and support to the players as part of our wide sporting family.
