Supporting the development of cricket in Iceland
We are continuing to raise money for all aspects of cricket in Iceland. We need equipment, especially for our development programmes which provide cricket coaching for schools and refugees. Our dedicated core of ex-pats runs the national game, but we need to focus on the growth of cricket among young refugees and Icelanders. This is a social enterprise as much as a sporting project.
As cricket in Iceland develops and grows, the crucial next step is the installation of a proper artificial cricket pitch. Matches are currently played, whether indoors or outdoors, on 3G artificial football pitches with rubber crumbs. This gives a very bouncy surface which can be a challenge for all players, and which holds back the technical development of our players. It's also not ideal for children. We'd love to import and install a cricket-dedicated playing surface but we need more money to do that.
