Aim
To allow a historic theatre company to continue to bring performance and theatre education to deprived areas of the UK.
Icarus are a midscale theatre company touring to venues around the UK, many of which are in very deprived areas without access to live theatre. Our 17-year track record includes 22 productions at 200+ venues.
Icarus cannot maintain our company long-term without new touring income. But theatres around the country are suffering too. The financial guarantees that were once commonplace in negotiating tours are now nearly impossible to secure. Yet we at Icarus believe now, more than ever, communities need theatre. Bringing people together for creative expression, uniting and educating young people, should be crucial tenets in the reconstruction of a post-pandemic UK.
As such, we are seeking to raise the funds to ensure we can take lower up-front financial guarantees from future tour venues, allowing them the time and leeway required to continue rebuilding.
Funding from you will not only help finance our return to touring productions, but also a vital digital transformation for us; we would complete a total overhaul of our website, and move forward with a currently in-development collaboration with local theatres to project 360° theatre experiences into the homes of those who are unable to enjoy theatre traditionally, via a VR headset. These developments would provide us with a much-needed marketing boost to help us compete in the competitive new theatre market.
