ICAHD is currently raising money to rebuild a Palestinian home demolished by Israeli authorities because it did not have a building permit. Under Israel’s zoning and planning rules, it seldom grants Palestinians approval for house construction therefore this demolition was done in violation of international law. In the meantime Israel has established settlements where more than 620,000 Israeli Jews reside within the Occupied Territory which is also a violation of international law.
Who are we?
The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) was founded in Jerusalem in 1997 as an Israeli peace and human rights organisation to end Israel’s occupation of Palestine and to advance a just peace between the two peoples. Its main focus for mobilization concerns the Israeli government’s policy of home demolitions. Since 1967 more than 48,000 Palestinian homes and structures have been demolished in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, in violation of international law, ICAHD has rebuilt 189 homes as political acts of non-violent resistance to Israel’s occupation and brings together Israelis and Palestinians to demonstrate that they refuse to be enemies.
ICAHD is now a grassroots organisation with international support chapters.
