I'm hoping to raise money alongside Let's Go Skate for an indoor skate park in the Huntingdonshire area.
My Contribution:
I've seen the work that the LGS instructors have put in and I want to do my bit to help make this skate park happen. So on 24th March (weather permitting !) I'm joining the Let's Go Skate team on a long distance skate event, where we will be skating the length of St Ives guided busway (12.5 miles) I'm hoping that I can complete the full distance but I've never skated anything close to this so I'll just try my best! Any donation towards this would be greatly appreciated.
My Story:
I started skating in June 2023 at the age of 7 after having my first lesson with Jason from Let's Go Skate at Alconbury Weald. In the last 9 months my love for skateboarding has only grown, I've made new friends and learnt a lot about the skateboarding community and that it's not as scary as it first seems!
I've been able to take part in Scenic's skate jam, which was fantastic as I was able to see so many different styles of skating and see the effort that all the skaters put in. This inspired me to keep going whenever possible in the winter months, but the wet weather has made it very difficult.
Through the last few months I've not been able to get out as much as I'd like due to the winter weather and my skills and confidence have had a bit of a set back due to this. An indoor skate park would allow me to continue to practice all year round like many other sports, and allow my lessons to continue as they have to stop in December due to safety reasons. Unfortunately our closest indoor skate park is roughly an hours drive away and means that a quick trip out for an hours practice isn't feasible. Having a skatepark in the area would make a huge difference to so many people including myself and would allow me to develop my skills further without having to spend the first few months after winter re-learning the basics. It would also give me the opportunity to see friends that I have made at skateboarding lessons that I do not get to see at other times.
