Aim: We’re raising vital funds for Huntingdon Boat Club to support our rowers, secure the future of our club and replace our aging do

We are raising funds for Huntingdon Boat Club to invest in new boats, replacing some that are over 30 years old, so we can give our rowers the best equipment possible.

Huntingdon Boat Club Crowdfunding Campaign

Who We Are

Huntingdon Boat Club, founded in 1854, is a community-based rowing club located on the River Great Ouse. Run entirely by passionate volunteers, our mission is to make rowing accessible and affordable for people of all ages and backgrounds.

As a registered Community Amateur Sports Club, we offer not only river-based rowing but also indoor training facilities and a warm, welcoming environment. Our members benefit from staying fit, building lasting friendships, and socialising in our on-site bar.

Why Are We Crowdfunding?

Since late 2023, we’ve seen a significant increase in both junior and senior membership. While this is exciting, it’s put real pressure on our aging fleet. Despite careful maintenance, several boats—some dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s—urgently need replacing. These boats have served us well, racing across the UK and Europe and winning many events. But with advances in technology, it’s time to upgrade so our rowers can train and compete with equipment that matches their dedication.

To help fund these upgrades, our members are throwing everything into a sponsored challenge to see how far they can move in a single week. Starting the week of 12 May, they’ll be rowing, running, and cycling, tracking every mile. The week will culminate in two marathon sessions from 7am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, with boats on the river all day and rowing and running machines going nonstop on land.

Our members are reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues to support their efforts—but we need your help too.

Our coaches and volunteers work tirelessly to give every member a chance to row. By securing funding for new boats, we can ensure the best possible experience for everyone. We’ve even had to start a waiting list due to equipment shortages. In addition to crowdfunding, we’re applying for a Sport England grant to help cover the remaining costs.

The Importance of Junior Rowing

Rowing is about more than just sport—it helps shape young lives. Juniors make up a large part of our club, and giving them access to high-quality equipment and opportunities is essential to their development.

How Rowing Supports Young People

Encourages Positive Lifestyle Choices: Rowing offers a structured, healthy activity in a supportive team environment, reducing the risk of anti-social behaviour.

Promotes Physical and Mental Well-Being: Regular training boosts fitness, discipline, and resilience—helping young people build confidence and perseverance.

Develops Teamwork and Leadership: As a crew sport, rowing teaches communication, cooperation, and leadership—skills that last a lifetime.

Creates Lasting Friendships: Rowing fosters strong, supportive friendships, building a sense of belonging and community.

Provides Competitive Opportunities: Many juniors race at local and national events, gaining experiences that could lead to scholarships and future opportunities.

By supporting our campaign, you’re investing in young people—helping them stay active, focused, and on the right path.

How We Will Spend the Funds

Your donations, along with a potential Sport England grant, will help us purchase:

• A new quad/four boat for our growing racing squads

• Two single sculls to replace outdated boats used by juniors and lightweight rowers

• If we exceed our target, a cox box for the new four—to enhance both training and race performance

Community Impact

Supporting this campaign means helping secure the future of Huntingdon Boat Club. You’ll be part of keeping rowing accessible in our community, strengthening social connections, and creating opportunities for future generations.
