Who are we?
Named after a Grade II listed Georgian house in view of the ground, Hundhill Hall Cricket Club was founded in 1897 and is currently the only cricket club in the vicinity of Pontefract. We are proud to be a community family club for all abilities, where everyone is welcome.
Our 1st XI play in the Pontefract & District Premier League and last season earned their highest finish. Our 2nd XI play in the 3rd division.
In 2024 we fielded 3 senior teams, including a midweek team, and 3 junior teams. We have also welcomed Yorkshire u11s and our local primary school, Larks Hill, to use the ground. We are also very proud that 2 of our current players are in the Yorkshire Cricket Pathway.
This season saw our first lady play a number of games for our 2nd XI, a growing number of girls in the juniors and plans to launch a ladies team in 2025.
We hosted a county blind cricket fixture between Yorkshire and Surrey in 2024.
Over 130 children and young people play cricket at our club and we have big ambitions to increase opportunities for more people to play our wonderful game.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The main aim of this project is to expand sporting and physical activity opportunities for the area of Pontefract. There are approximately 19,000 young people living within Pontefract where there are no other cricket clubs with junior sections, so access to such facilities is limited e.g., Areas of Pontefract are in the most 10% deprived in the country and lack access to leisure and sport facilities.
Similarly, there are no opportunities for girls and ladies’ cricket in Pontefract, something that through this project we’d like to address. We have been playing on our site since we were established in 1897, providing (and continuing to provide) a strong community focus that involves our local community in many ways.
We have worked alongside a local primary school and secondary school with young people who haven’t played cricket before. This puts extra demands on the club and the need for better facilities at our ground.
We are keen to develop a ladies team in 2025 which will also add extra pressure on our existing infrastructure and requires this new facility to help us grow the club further.
At present we currently cater for over 130 male and female cricketers across various age groups, however, the growing demand for cricket exceeds our capacity due to insufficient training infrastructure.
How we’ll spend the money raised
The money will be spent on a ECB approved enclosed training net .
Physical works required to undertake this work consist of:
•Installation of 1 Lane 33M
•Excavations and groundworks
•Remediation/imported soil contingency
•Training lines tufted into playing carpet
•PVC Skirt
•Batting curtains
Community impact
The legacy of the project will be the net itself providing a long-lasting structure for the club and broader community to continue using for years to come.
