Aim

To restore two 1914 Hudson Skip Wagons for use on the railway at Haigh Hall, Wigan,

The Haigh Woodland Railway Association was formed to support the development of the woodland railway with volunteers from all walks of life and to give a focus to specific projects.

The Association's aim was to bring together a collection of locomotives, rolling stock and other items to educate visitors as to how the development of railways came about with a focus on industrial and local history.

The Hudson Victory skip wagons  were donated to the Association and we are raising funds to restore them to operational condition where they may be demonstrated in use whilst conserving much of the fabric as possible.

The wagons are of historical importance given they are of War Department pattern dating from circa 1914. The wagons have been on display elsewhere and have suffered from exposure to the elements.

The restoration work would also enable volunteers working at the railway to obtain new practical skills during the strip down and restoration work of the wagons including the learning of traditional hot riveting and fabrication techniques which will enable further projects to be undertaken in the future.
