In these sensitive and challenging times, we believe that art is a platform to express and voice our agency as artists and individuals. This project creates an imaginative world of six performers, moving in a “utopian” world, telling a story of an individual and a group; of hope, universal humanism, and the call for freedom to move.
MESIBA is created by a group of creative artists from the fields of movement, cinema, and performing arts: directors and choreographers Adi Gortler and Tom Appelbaum, cinematographer and editor Omri Dagan and co-producer Sophie Max, plus an incredible crew and a cast of six diverse dancers from around the world. We believe that this project can reach film festivals and events across the world to challenge the current conversation through art. We believe in the power of movement and art as a way to communicate and share stories, raise awareness, and connect people through empathy.
This movement-based independent short film idea started from a poetic text that Tom Applebaum wrote. The text is in response to the Nova Festival massacre that happened on October 7th, 2023. The text will be narrated and recorded in voiceover by a survivor of the Nova Festival, Tal Ben Dror.
To fulfil the scale of this project, the funds will be allocated primarily to the post-production; editing, sound designing, paying cast and crew fairly and film festival submissions worldwide. We are looking to raise an investment of £10,000. Any additional funds will be used to raise the awareness at various events, Q&A sessions with the creators, and international dance and short film festivals.
We believe MESIBA is a powerful and moving film and one which we believe will commemorate the survivors and victims of October 7th in a fitting way, while encouraging messages of tolerance and hope across divides.
Any donations, big or small, will be appreciated and will help us give this film the audience it deserves.
