BLAZE 4:16-POTTERS BAR FOODBANK

RCN 1185255, Potters Bar

We operate a Foodbank which provides food and support to people in crisis in Potters Bar and surrounding areas. We work with care professionals and over 20 local agencies such as Hertsmere Council and Citizens Advice Bureau who assess clients and provide them with foodbank vouchers. We also provide education and training in various areas to enrich community development for children and adults.

BLAZE 4:16-POTTERS BAR FOODBANK

We are now witnessing a cost of living crisis that adversely affects so many people. As a consequence, we see that people are finding it really hard to cope with soaring food and energy costs.

1. We are sadly still seeing elevated demands across Potters Bar and Hertsmere as a whole, and we don't expect this to decrease any time soon.

2. We are seeing a reduction in food donations as peoples' shopping habits are changing with more on-line shopping.

3. Our regular volunteers are ready and willing to process food donations but we often have a shortfall. We are now having to purchase more essential items, including toiletries to meet demand.

We need your urgent help to fund the purchase of food and other essentials that are required to fill this gap.

Our Story

Opened since July 2013, Potters Bar Foodbank has provided a vital service in the local community to help the most vulnerable people in our area. We are open only once a week (2 hours) on Saturday as we don’t have our own premises but the number of people we serve within our operational hours is huge.  Last year in 2021 our foodbank helped feed over 900 people, half of whom were children.

Our foodbank is run solely by volunteers who work really hard to provide emergency food parcels to last 3 days. Last year more than 40% of the people visiting the foodbank were working, often full time and could not make ends meet being on zero-hour contracts.  We also have many single mums who are facing real hardships to put food on the table for their children.

Additionally, we provide assistance with fuel payments and provide essentials such as clothes, shoes and heating elements.  We also work in partnerships with businesses in Potters Bar to provide essential items and also organise lunches for our clients, particularly during half-term, Christmas and other occasions.

We also offer additional wrap around services such as CV Writing, Getting Ready for Jobs, English, Maths and Music lessons for children and ESOL

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our area.  We have a holistic approach to our work, treating all clients as individuals, assessing the root causes of their issues and helping them seek solutions.

Thanks so much for all your support at this time of need.
