Help fund installation of rubber ditch mats and automated sprinkler system
Camelford & District Bowls Club is a local Lawn & Short Mat Bowls Club located on the outskirts of Camelford in Cornwall. This is a vibrant club that has approximately 50 outdoor members and in recent years we have encouraged the community to use our sports club hall for craft events and Parkinson’s Yoga Sessions that will use our hall thoughout 2026.
Also a few years ago we held a Bowlathon in aid of Prostrate Cancer and we raised approximately £8,000 for this worthy charity.
After achieving planning permission in 2025, we hopefully will acquire a building extension grant in 2026 to extend our clubhouse for future community use as well as developing a permanent short mat hall so that short mat can be played all year round thereby increasing the club membership.

Our project cost is £8,454 and we have been awarded half the monies required, but we do need to match this pledge from Sport England.
Sport England will provide 50% (£4227) if we can raise the other 50% via this Crowdfunding campaign. Every £1 counts and will help us to complete this project successfully so please support us in our endeavours.

Our Crowdfunding project is to install an automated sprinkler watering system, plus ditch mats for the protection of lawn bowls. The benefits of both installations are: Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Soil & Turf Health, Reduction of chemical use, Lower carbon foot print, Recycled rubber, Improved drainage, less harmful material.

The impact that our project will have for the community in Camelford will mean that our club would be able to hold Major County Competitions that will involve competitors and the community to visit our grounds and use our club facilities. In recent years our club has opened our clubhouse hall, for a craft fair and the Committee room has been used by the Committee of our local Memory Café Group. There are plans next year to invite Parkinson’s Yoga Class on a weekly basis in 2026.
To be able to promote these Major County Competitions it is important that our Green Keeping Team manage to achieve a healthy turf, so investment in an automated watering sprinkler system will ensure that the turf is watered early in the morning. The benefits are Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, Soil & Turf Health, Reduction of chemical use, Lower carbon foot print. The lowering of carbon footprint is achieved by the green keeping staff not having to drive to the club to setup and turn on the current manual sprinklers.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
