Aim

Install LED floodlights to enhance pitch visibility and reduce energy costs.

Summary

Hartlepool Rugby Club has been a cornerstone of our community for over 130 years, offering rugby for all ages, abilities and backgrounds. To continue providing safe, accessible sport, especially for our growing junior section, we urgently need to replace our failing floodlights with modern LED lighting and install a battery system to boost our solar energy setup.

This will improve safety, cut energy costs and reduce our carbon footprint. With support from the British Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund, every £1 you give becomes £4, meaning £5,000 in donations will unlock the full £20,000 needed to power this essential upgrade.

About us

With 21 teams and playing opportunities for everyone from 4 to 74 years old, we’re proud to offer rugby for all ages and abilities.

But we’re more than just a rugby club.

We’re a place where everyone is welcome - no matter your background, experience or story. Whether you're pulling on your boots for the first time or cheering from the sidelines, at Mayfield Park, you’re part of the team.

As a true community hub, we use the power of sport to break down barriers, bring people together and create lasting memories. We’ve seen lives changed, friendships formed and confidence built - on and off the pitch.

This is more than a club. It’s a family. A safe, supportive and inclusive space where people come together to belong, to grow and to thrive.

A club for all. Memories for life.

The Challenge We’re Facing

Like many community clubs, rising energy costs have hit us hard. What makes Hartlepool Rugby Club unique is that junior players pay no weekly or annual fees - it’s completely free for children to play here. This has fuelled our junior growth but also means we rely heavily on our facilities to remain sustainable.

Our aging halogen floodlights are failing: only 1 in 8 still works, bulbs can’t be replaced and the poor lighting affects visibility, safety and performance. Without reliable floodlights, winter training and evening games are at risk - threatening our growth, safety and inclusivity.

What We're Raising Money For

With your support we plan to upgrade to modern LED floodlights on our existing pylons to provide brighter, safer lighting, cut electricity costs and reduce maintenance. This will keep rugby safe, accessible and affordable for all.

Additionally, adding a battery system to our solar setup will boost energy independence, lower bills, provide backup power during outages and reduce our carbon footprint.

British Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund

Our aim is to raise £20,000 in just four weeks.

The good news is the British Gas Energy for Tomorrow Fund has agreed to help.

Thanks to their generous support, for every £1 we raise, they will contribute £3.

That means if we can raise £5,000, British Gas will provide £15,000 – allowing us to hit our target of £20,000 and make this vital project a reality.
