Aim: Houston needs you! Help shape the future with a Local Place Plan that empowers the community. Let’s build a better Houston together!

Houston Needs Help — Are You Connected?

Houston, a historic conservation village in Renfrewshire, is at a crossroads. With roots tracing back to the Bronze Age and a name derived from Hugh’s Town — home of Clan Houston — this proud community has centuries of heritage embedded in its streets and stone.

Today, over 6,000 people live in Houston and neighbouring Crosslee. It’s a place with strong local pride, a deep respect for its past, and a desire to grow sustainably. But large developers have other ideas. Plans for major new housing developments now threaten the area’s unique character, overwhelming local infrastructure and putting conservation status at risk.

In 2023, the Scottish Government empowered communities to shape their future through Local Place Plans — legal planning documents that must be considered in future development decisions. Houston Community Council is seizing this opportunity. With the help of independent consultants, they’re creating a credible, professional plan that reflects the community’s voice.

But funding is limited — and that’s where you come in.

We need support to make this happen. Every contribution brings us closer to protecting Houston’s heritage and shaping a future the villages deserve. Any surplus funds will go directly towards turning the plan’s vision into reality.

Help preserve the past — and shape the future.
