Aim

We aim to purchase land near Bethesda in North Wales to serve as an Earth Hospice (Hosbis Daear); a sustainable model for living and dying.

Hosbis Daear / Earth Hospice CIC is a community interest company (UK Not for Profit) with a board of 7 passionate directors (a palliative care nurse, funeral director and woodland burial site manager, interfaith minister and end of life doulas, a psychologist and psychotherapists, yoga teacher and holistic practitioners). The vision is to become the stewards of the land which is currently the Joys of Life retreat centre near Bethesda in North Wales and transform it into a sustainable model for living and dying. We are teaming up with the inspirational Felin Uchaf to use natural building methods to create a circular community hall called Tomen y Crannog and a "house of the ancestors". We will rename Joys of Life "Tirioni" which invokes tenderness and gentleness. Alongside hospice rooms we will complement medical care with holistic therapies and nutrition, growing our own food; the land will develop into a natural and woodland burial, community resource for living and dying well including training rooms, cafe, library and gardens. While this is will, of course, benefit our local community (there are no hospice beds in the county at the moment) we also believe that we are offering the world a model for end of life care that is sustainable, achievable by any community and is in right relationship with the Earth and with local communities. The beneficiaries of this work are not just those who are dying; this is an intergenerational, inclusive space for all who wish to find a simpler, more peaceful way of being. The facilities will be available for community use for classes, complementary and alternative therapies and gatherings such as weddings and of course funerals.
