Up to 300, otherwise homeless, tenants in Hope into Action houses across England in fuel and food poverty desperately need help and support

by Hope into Action in Peterborough, England, United Kingdom

Hope-into-Action is an award-winning charity that ‘enables churches to house the homeless’. We began 12 years ago in Peterborough with a first home for ex-offenders. We now have 102 homes in 34 towns/cities in partnership with 99 churches. Each house contains 2-3 tenants, and we have capacity for over 350 people supported by friendship and support groups.

Using investment capital, we purchase homes. The investors lease them to Hope into Action and we then run them for the homeless. Every home meets our high internal quality' standards and gives the tenants dignity and a sense of worth. The tenants include rough-sleepers, former prisoners, refugees, those in recovery from addiction, fleeing domestic-violence, trafficked situations and formerly in prostitution and more.

Every house is in partnership with a church who provide a vital relational and community element to the project. The church 'friendship and support group' provide befrienders who makes tenants feel loved and whole. The befriender's journey with the tenants on their journey of recovery and beyond the tenancy.

Additionally, Hope into Action provide Empowerment Workers who do work churches are not best equipped to. This includes rent collection, liaising with other agencies, and tenancy work. This vital role ensures a professionalism and quality with every home.

In the light of the housing and cost of living crisis our tenants require greater support to empower them to make a useful contribution to society and successfully move on to their own accommodation. The money raised will support our work with some of the most vulnerable people in society and provide a loving home where each tenant receives the love and support that transforms a roof over the head into a home where they can begin the process of recovery.
