Home-Start Wessex supports local families facing tough times. Your Christmas donation helps parents give children a brighter, happier start
Home-Start Wessex is a local charity supporting families with young children who are facing difficult times — from isolation and mental health challenges to disability, abuse and Homelesness. Our trained volunteers offer practical help and emotional support, giving parents the confidence and stability they need to help their children thrive.
Mum recently supported at local homeless shelter had been homeless for ten months with her four-year-old daughter after a no-fault eviction. She was coping with ADHD, depression, CPTSD, and complete isolation, while also caring for a child with ADHD and seizures. With no support network she felt overwhelmed, unheard, and alone.
Home-Start stepped in to advocate for her, helping rebuild connections with professionals, coordinating input from housing, health visitors, and medical teams, and linking her to ongoing mental-health support. Through group sessions and one-to-one support, she formed healthy friendships, learned resilience tools, and began to believe she wasn’t failing — she was surviving incredibly hard circumstances.
It costs just £160 a month to provide a family with specially trained volunteers offering one-to-one support in their own home — a small cost when you consider the long-term impact on a child’s wellbeing, a parent’s stability, and the wider community.
