We aim is to provide Warm Spaces - Smiley Faces - Groups across Southport for isolated families with babies and pre-school children.
Home-Start provide friendship, emotional support and practical help to families with young children in the community. We have been doing this for over 20 years. Trained volunteers visit families weekly to offer help and reassurance to parents who are finding day to day life tough. Families struggling with poor mental health, loneliness, financial worries and many other problems that make life hard. A visit from a caring volunteer makes a real difference to families and shows that someone is there for them that cares. Volunteers visit families for as long as it takes until they feel able to stand on their own two feet. This support can be life changing for families. As well as volunteer visits we provide basics, such as food and clothing, equipment, furniture and toys from our Eco re-use project. We also offer counselling to parents.
By providing these Warm Spaces-Smiley Faces groups families isolation will be reduced and confidence will grow, they will be encouraged to meet up outside the group and try other activities in the community. We can sign post to these and take them along if they need a helping hand. We can help them to make the most of the free activities we have in Southport such as the beach and parks. Reducing families isolation will help them become happier and more integrated into the community. Often Home-Start supported parents go on to 'give something back' and become volunteers themselves, ensuring sustainability of the charity.

We are crowdfunding to be able to continue the work we do with families and provide warm and welcoming spaces to families who are experiencing loneliness, financial hardship and isolation. We have found that parents who are lacking in confidence because of poor mental health or difficulties are reluctant to leave the house and are socially isolated. Our groups will address the needs of these families and provide fun and friendship for all the family.
