Who are we?
We are Holyhead Rugby Club based on Anglesey in North Wales. We are a small club but we have big ambitions. Because are small and have limited resources, but our vision is what matters. In the past year, we have embarked on a journey to grow the club by reintroducing rugby at the club for 4 - 17 year olds and to become more inclusive by offering Touch Rugby for those who enjoy the fitness and social aspects but don't want to participate in a contact sport. We are also working to become more visible in the community to encourage more women in to the sport.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are Crowdfunding to buy equipment to help train our teams to play to sport safely. As a rugby club without a mens team and who are not yet competing in the children's game our income only covers the basics of operating the club. We rely on sponsorship and the support of our community to buy equipment.
Unfortunatly during the cost of living crisis companies have less funds for supporting the commuity and we have found obtaining sponsorship difficult. Crowdfunding is an amazing way of obtaing financial support through smaller contributions. We are incredibly grateful for all of the support we receive and hope that through this we can continue to grow the club for the benefit of those in our community.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We want to be very transparent about how the money will be spent and what exacly will be purchased. So here is our shopping list:
1. Purchase a woman’s scrum machine.
This will enable us to provide safer scrum training for our forwards and help us develop the skills of our players.
Cost: £3000
2. Purchase of a Tackle Mat
A Tackle Mat helps us developing tackling skills whilst minimizing the impact and potential risk of injury. This is very important for our new players and children who need to learn these skills as safely as possible.
Cost: £1300
3. Fitness Equipment
We have started to offer fitness training which we have both players and non-players attend. We want to ensure that we have the right equiment for this. The right equiemnt can help avoid injury, improve performance, and helps give confidence whilst exercising. We also feel that its important to encorporate fitness training in to our Childrens sessions in a fun way and having the right equipment will help us do this.
Cost: £500
Community impact
We want to offer all our community access to the benefits that team sports can offer, such as building self-confidence, developing teamwork skills, learning respect and the feeling of belonging. Having a local club doesn't just give the community the possibility of participating in sports, it provides a free local facility to join to watch a game, meet friends, meet strangers and enjoy social interaction over a shared interest.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
