I started a local history group on social media a few years ago, and realised that there is a need for one ultimate website collating the history of Hastings, East Sussex England. There are many reference sources about the history of this town, but none appear to cross-reference other sources and it takes a lot of time to research fully events in the town.
Starting with a volunteer-led effort to transcribe the Brett Manuscript Histories covering 1820 to 1863, the website now incorporates geo-located images of the town and it has now moved on to transcribing street directories and other published works, collating all the information in such a way that the history of individual buildings and roads can be easily referenced.
The fundraiser is to pay for the ever-increasing storage required to host the website with currently almost 5,000 content pages and over 7,500 images of the town - these numbers increasing daily as more content is uploaded and transcribed.
