Himmah - Warm This Winter Appeal

Who are we?

Himmah is a grassroots community-based organisation providing services tackling food poverty, racism and educational inequalities. For several years we have been bringing food poverty to the forefront, with both food provisions and reports. We currently have one foodbank and two social supermarkets which serve a range of communities in Nottingham.  We are crowdfunding in order to raise additional funds so we can sustain and expand our food provision and warm packs for beneficiaries as we face increasing demand due to the cost-of-living crisis.  

Community impact

Himmah is here for anyone facing a financial crisis and is in need of support to be able to meet their essential food needs.  We work with over 40 referral partners including schools, housing associations, women's aid, refugee support organisations and CAB.  They will refer clients to us who are struggling to cover the cost of food and require some emergency support whilst they are provided with ongoing advice and support to manage their finances. 

In addition to providing food, Himmah also provides warm packs, advice on reducing energy costs, cooking classes and financial resiliance courses.  Our staff and volunteers are able to signpost and refer clients to additional specialist support services  who can advise them on a range of different issues from debt, to benefits, to employability support, to help them to resolve a crisis, and through employment lift themselves from poverty.  This will enable them to address the issues causing financial or related difficulties and reduce the likelihood that they will find themselves in financial crisis again in the future. 

Why are we crowdfunding?

Himmah's monthly demand for food parcels has increased from around 500 a month in 2020/21 to 1200 a month this year, showing the level of need we are facing. We also are now providing support to people to keep warm this winter and this appeal is crucial in resourcing our warm packs (things to help our beneficiaries to keep their homes warm) whilst also helping us with our increased heating costs.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We will spend the money raised on this crowdfunder on buying materials for our warm packs (radiator bleed keys, radiator foil, draft excluders and blankets) and helping us to keep our heating on so we can provide a safe and healthy welcome space to our beneficiaries. This will enable us to meet the increased demand for support and prevent us having to reduce opening hours because of the increases in our utility bills.
