Aim

Our community cafe is a lifeline for many in our community and we need help to pay for our rent so we can keep the doors open.

When is a café not a café? When it’s the Hillstop Café. Run totally by volunteers (from Hillhouse Residents & Tenants Association) we aim to support individuals and families in Hillhouse and the surrounding area.  We open our doors every Wednesday from 11.00 am until 3.00 pm at Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre, we provide a warm and welcoming environment where local people can enjoy some company and social contact while accessing a whole range of other things such as quality meals and snacks, a food larder, a clothes swap shop, money advice services, life skills learning for local P7 school kids, free taxi service to and from the centre provided by Wellman cars and much more.

We recognise that a sudden crisis can happen to anyone such as a benefit delay, an unexpected bill, a change in family relationships, uncertain and insecure work or redundancy and this can put a huge strain on household budgets. As the cost of living soars too many people are having to make difficult decisions daily about money, sometimes forced to choose between paying the rent, heating bills and eating.

Our mission is to reduce hunger by tackling food insecurity.

Our aim is to promote community spirit, and connectedness and mitigate food insecurity – we reduce isolation by offering a place for social contact, activities and volunteering opportunities.  All our activities are delivered free at the point of delivery to those who need it the most, to promote inclusiveness and reduce stigma.

We require funding to sustain the café as we do not make any profit on the food we deliver, this means we need to find the money for the hall let from somewhere else. We have already tried lots of other avenues to find the funds to cover this but so far have not managed it. Thankfully a local business has stepped in to help us for a few weeks but we need to secure funding so we can operate for the next twelve months. This is where we are asking for your help.

We need to raise £4250 to cover the hall lets and a contingency fund for the fresh food for the larder. This equals £3700 for lets and £550 for food for the year.

For every £20 that you donate we can operate for an hour, for every £10 you donate we can feed someone for several days to give them a chance to access other help. If you donate £82.60 you will have paid our rent for a day!!

Any amount large or small will make a difference and ensure we stay open for the next year, this gives us time to secure other funding for the future.
