We believe that in testing economic times, fostering positive relationships between diverse communities is not a luxury but a necessity.
Interfaith work in Glasgow is under serious threat, following the recent loss of Interfaith Glasgow’s Council funding. With your help, we can turn things around!
This Saturday IG staff, Board members, and volunteers from the city’s diverse communities will climb Ben A’an (and the bravest will then plunge into Loch Achray) to raise funds for IG. Over 30 people (aged 6-70) and one dog will participate, with fitness levels ranging from ‘Montrose Street is my biggest hill to date’ to ‘next time: Ben Nevis’! We’ll be coming together to support each other in one common mission: to secure the future of Interfaith Glasgow and its award-winning programmes.
A bit more context: In January 2023 we received the devastating news that IG would lose its Glasgow City Council funding from April, due to unprecedented demand on Council funds. This sudden loss of over half IG’s annual income leaves the charity in an extremely precarious position and at serious risk of losing skilled staff and vital and thriving programmes like our Weekend Club, which supports an interfaith team of volunteers to tackle the social isolation experienced by refugees and asylum seekers; and the Interfaith Food Justice Network, which facilitates a collaborative, community-led response to food poverty amongst diverse grassroots groups striving to meet local needs.
Since announcing this news at the beginning of the year, we’ve been working flat out on applications for alternative sources of funding and have managed to keep things going in the meantime, thanks to the generosity of our supporters.*
This Ben A’an Challenge offers a particularly special opportunity to support us. We have been so moved by the willingness of our volunteers, from all walks of life, to go above and beyond the call of duty – many putting themselves well outside their comfort zones – to undertake this collective challenge because they believe so much in what IG does. We’d love you to be part of this collective effort to save interfaith work in Glasgow by giving what you can to support them and by sharing this appeal far and wide.

It will provide much-needed unrestricted funds to support the overall work of the charity, enabling IG to continue employing staff and delivering a diverse range of programmes while we continue pursuing alternative grant funding.
