Headingley Development Trust (HDT) is launching HIF2025, a new community investment fund designed to build a stronger, more sustainable future for Headingley.

Through this share offer, we aim to:

• Secure the long-term future of Headingley Greengrocer, a cherished local business serving the community for 125 years.
• Invest in the facilities and infrastructure at HEART, our Enterprise and Arts Centre, ensuring it continues to thrive as a hub for creativity, business, and community life.
• Create a fund to support new community-led projects and local high street businesses, fostering innovation and resilience in our neighbourhood.

A Proven Track Record in Community Investment

HDT is a community-owned organisation with nearly 1,200 members. Since our formation in 2005, we have successfully raised and managed funds to deliver transformative local projects, including:

• HEART on Bennett Road, our flagship Enterprise and Arts Centre.
• The Headingley Investment Fund (HIF), launched in 2018, which raised over £480,000 to: 
  • Refinance HEART, securing its future
  • Purchase and renovate a house in Headingley, providing more community-led housing.
  • Acquire and support Headingley Greengrocer, ensuring a vital high street presence.

Most recently, we purchased the freehold of both the Greengrocer and the neighbouring Headingley Farm Butchers, safeguarding them as independent, community-rooted businesses.

Despite significant challenges—COVID, economic uncertainty, and rising energy costs—our HIF fund has consistently delivered for both the community and investors, paying 2% interest per year.

Now, we are ready to do even more.

HIF2025: A Bold Ambition for Growth

Our goal is to raise at least £100,000, with an ambition to reach £300,000 or more. These funds will be used to:

Strengthen Local Businesses

• Refinance the freehold of the Greengrocer, ensuring long-term stability.
• Reduce mortgage costs, allowing more profits to be reinvested into community projects.

Invest in HEART’s Future

• Upgrade Tiny Boo, our much-loved under-5s stay-and-play area.
• Enhance PULSE, our co-working space, to support local entrepreneurs.
• Transform the former playground into a community green space.
• Introduce energy-saving measures, including solar panels at HEART and the Greengrocer.

Support the Next Wave of Community Initiatives

• Provide a fund for new high street businesses and emerging community projects, ensuring Headingley continues to thrive.

Investors can choose their interest rate: 0%, 2%, or 4%.

Note: To invest, you must be a member of HDT. If you are not already a member, a one-time £10 membership fee will be required in addition to your investment.

What is the smallest amount I can invest?

The minimum share subscription per person is £100. 

For 2025, we are working with Power to Change to make shares more affordable to younger investors by offering a subscription service, whereby investors pay for their shares in 12 monthly instalments. We have applied to Power to Change to allow us to offer up to £15,000 worth of shares on this monthly subscription basis. These will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of £1,000 per investor.
