I am making a documentary on the common misconceptions of hidden disabilities, I am so sick of the rhetoric from the government and press
I’m Maddy Alexander-Grout,
I am a disabled person with several hidden disabilities, including hEDS, POTS, MCAS, ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, PMDD, Hashimotos and Dyslexia.
I spend most of my time campaigning for disabled rights, helping people to understand more about disabilities.
if you saw “The Great ADHD Myth” this documentary will be completely the opposite. It’s going to lean in to what it is really like having a disability that people can’t see.
I have been working in the disability space for around 5 years now, since I got my ADHD diagnosis. And I want to create something professional to help to educate the public.
You never know, maybe it will end up being on Netflix!
If you are disabled you will probably be just as angry as me at the state of the country right now.
Disabled people are being thrown under the bus, and it’s making life even harder for us.
I had the idea to create a documentary, and I impulsively booked a recording studio, I paid for it, and then thought whoops! There are actually going to be a lot more costs associated with making this than I originally thought.
So if you can contribute anything to this I would massively appreciate it.
Once it’s made I don’t want to gatekeep it.
It will be available for anyone to watch free of charge.
But I do need a bit of help getting it made.
I want it to be professionally edited, I can’t compensate the contributors for their time and their travel/ accessibility needs, I want to be able to market it effectively and make sure that it gets to the right places. And that will also take me away from my day to day work.
