The story behind..

Two years ago, my bike was stolen. I reported it, posted everywhere, and waited. Nothing came back. What stayed with me wasn't just losing the bike, it was the feeling of facing it completely alone, with no one out there looking. It left me so gutted that I didn't want to buy another bike until this year. So I started imagining a community alert.

What if every biker nearby could be alerted the moment a bike goes missing?

I shared the idea with biker communities on Facebook, and the response was better than I ever expected. That's when Michal, a mechanical engineer, reached out and offered to help me build the first prototype. We clicked straight away, and HERD started to become real.

The strength of HERD is in the numbers. The more of us on the network, the closer the community and the stronger our chances of getting a stolen bike home. But this was never only about recovery. 

I've been the biker who owns a bike but doesn't know a single person in the area, and it's a lonely place to be. So the app isn't just about keeping an eye on your bike it's about sharing the ride, posting your moments, and joining others on the road nearby.

My vision is simple: a road where no biker rides alone, where every bike on the network is another set of eyes and every biker is someone who has your back.

Posting on Facebook?

Posting your stolen bike on Facebook feels like doing something. But it's really just hoping — hoping the right person scrolls past, hoping they're nearby. Most posts get buried within a day.

There are countless Facebook groups for stolen bikes. A lot of them are filled with thieves too. 

HERD replaces that hope with a controlled network. Every biker on it is verified before they join, so when a bike is marked stolen, every biker within 30 miles gets a direct alert — the bike's details and its last known position, sent straight to people close enough to help. Not a post in an open feed. A network built to respond.

How the Community Alert works?

The alert only goes out when a theft is confirmed. Your bike moves without your fob nearby, the tracker flags it, and you confirm it's stolen. Only then Herd alerts every biker within 30 miles, showing the bike's last known location. Suddenly there are eyes on the ground across the whole area. And if a biker spots something useful, they can send that straight back to the owner from the alert in the app — a direction of travel, a sighting, anything that helps.

That's the part no competitor has. 

Will everyone see my bike's live location? No. The alert only ever shows the last known position of a stolen bike — never a live location, never an exact pin, and never anything unless you've reported it stolen. Bikers get a direction to look, not a target to chase.

Can a thief just download the app? No. Access is locked: the tracker is fitted only by approved shops, which issue a code you need for the sign up. Everyone on the network is a checked bike owner.

Three Tiers of Security:

We want to build Herd in three tiers on purpose. The goal is to get as many bikes as possible onto the same alert network so every owner can afford the community protection, while choosing how much extra hardware security they want on top.

The tiers only change the hardware you get. The community network is the same for everyone — which is exactly what makes it strong.

What makes it different from other trackers?

HERD is the only one with a community alert — mark your bike stolen and every biker nearby gets notified. 

It's also the only one where you can connect with bikers nearby and share your rides.

 And our hardware: the tracker, alarm and ghost tracker will be developed to work together as one system.

Our commitment:

HERD only exists because of how the community responded, that response is what convinced me to make this real. 

I know what it's like to save hard for a bike, only to have it taken from you. That's why we're setting aside 10% of everything we raise: for a biker who can't afford to replace their bike, can't afford to claim on insurance, or got their bike back but can't afford the repairs. 

This is what looking after our own really means.

HERD is proven in concept, bikers want this and the response has shown it. But concept isn't a product. Your pledge is what turns HERD from an idea into something real, tested, and ready to protect real bikers.

Finishing the prototype
Taking HERD from proof-of-concept to a fully finalised, working prototype — the tracker, the alarm and the ghost tracker, built and tested to work together as one system.

Building the app & software
Full development of the HERD app — the tracking dashboard, the community alert feed, and the features that connect bikers with each other.

24/7 monitoring, for certification
Securing an accredited monitoring centre, live 24/7/365 — a required step toward Thatcham certification, and the foundation the whole recovery network depends on.
