Henleaze Junior School Growing Project

Aim

We want to equip our children with the skills and resources to grow food, plant trees, nurture our nature zone and look after our planet.

Here at Henleaze Junior School...

...we have created a Sustainable Living Plan with the help of our elected pupil Green Ambassadors, mini Greta Thunbergs all. We have already built some raised growing beds, created a new nature zone and begun learning about how to take action against climate change.

With your help, we now want to take the next step in bringing the plan to vibrant life...

Your donations will help us purchase gardening tools and other equipment like forks, spades, trowels, gardening gloves, wellies and kneeling mats, as well as seeds and bulbs for planting in beds and borders, and tree saplings for planting all around the edge of our playing field. This will create a wonderful woodland walk - and much-needed shade for those hot(ter) summers.

The children also want to put bird boxes, bat boxes, bird feeders and bug hotels in the nature zone, and grow a wildflower meadow to increase the biodiversity of our school site.

To make the project truly sustainable, we want to buy in some expert help to teach the children how to maintain the nature zone, tend to the raised bed and be 'wardens of the wood' we are going to plant. And then each year, our Green Ambassadors will train more children to take on the mantle of making our space greener and greener.

We want to grow a lasting love of nature, cultivate a sense of responsibility towards our planet and give our children the tools to care for the earth.

M&S has very kindly agreed to match the first £1,000 we raise so every pound you donate to our Growing Project will straightaway grow twice as big. Now that's what we call green-fingered!

Thank you for all your support!
