Homelessness isn’t someone else’s issue. It has a ripple effect throughout the community. It impacts the availability of healthcare resources, crime and safety, the workforce, and the use of tax. Further, homelessness impacts the present as well as the future. It benefits all of us to break the cycle of homelessness, one person, one family at a time. Many in the community try to help and inspire others who are still working their way out of homelessness
United 2 Help is proposing a Winter Shelter Program to provide winter evening shelter services to 50 homeless persons using the heirs of promise church building for 90 days from January 2023 until March 2023.
Below is some additional information that may help everyone better understand
the project; and finally, to limit the number of people to 50. Therefore, this program is designed to house 50 people by the end of the 90-day period.
It is not a permanent St Mungo's Broadway shelter. Inside the church, there will be mats for sleeping and a hot meal will be served by volunteers, as well providing Pack toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, snacks, gloves and warm socks in backpacks and hand them out to the homeless.. There would be two volunteer overnight supervisors. The Shelter Program would run from January to March, the coldest and wettest part of the year. It would be a DRY shelter (i.e. no alcohol or drugs allowed). During the 90-day stay, United @ Help volunteers will make a concentrated effort through homeless service agency partnerships to find emergency, transitional or permanent housing for persons enrolled in the winter shelter in order to avoid return to the street when the churches Shelter closes.
